Graduate Writing Exam Procedures

Please print this page before you start to register.

1. Go to the Online Essay Evaluation Page.


2. Log in by entering your MIT ID Number in both the "Login" and "Password" boxes. Note: you will NOT use your Kerberos login for the Graduate Writing Exam. Your 9-digit MIT ID Number is your login ID.


3. You will be required to change your password. Write down your new password and keep it in a safe place. 


4. Register for the Graduate Writing Exam by the date and time specified on the Deadlines page.


5. Enter your email address


6. Under "Edit Biographical Information", enter a phone number where you can be reached during the exam period.


7. Access the readings through the Online Graduate Writing Exam site at the specified date and time.

   Note: If you do not complete the Online Graduate Writing Exam, you will be required to take the make-up Graduate Writing Exam in September.



8. Access the essay question through the Online Graduate Writing Exam site at the specified date and time.


9. Write your essay without assistance from anyone.


10. Submit your essay through the Graduate Writing Exam site before the specified deadline.
